On Thursday August 30th, Smarthinking joined hundreds (nay, thousands!) of business owners at MCEC for Small Business BIG Marketing. We were gathered to take part in the annual feature event of Victoria’s Small Business Festival – organised by the Victorian Government through Small Business Victoria.
Small Business BIG Marketing is a half-day event incorporating marketing seminars, a marketing services exhibition and networking opportunities. It’s intended to give small business people an opportunity to learn practical marketing skills from high-profile business marketers. Featured speakers included: Peter Williams – CEO of Deloitte Digital; Dominic Thurbon – MD of ChangeLabs; and Paul McCarthy – RockStar Marketer.
My colleague Mauricio Iraheta from Reach Digital and I were among approx. 25 exhibitors, covering a wide range of business services.
During the short breaks between seminars, our stand attracted a deluge of visitors. We both talked hard and fast about our offerings to the crowds that gathered to listen. We featured a simple competition in order to gather contact details of visitors to the stand. The prize of a Social Media & Content Makeover attracted over 80 entrants, from which 5 prize winners were randomly selected. We were so busy during the breaks, we were unable to take any shots of the crowds!
The event was a huge success – both Mauricio and I found it very enjoyable – it has reinforced our belief in the service offerings we’ve become known for and inspired us both to create more joint venture material.
