Business people from throughout Casey attended a networking evening last week to learn valuable information about attracting prospects. The Narre Warren Region Business Group held the event at Quest Apartments in Narre Warren on 20 March.

The guest speaker was Steve Osborne, author of How To Put POWER Into Your Marketing and the director of Smarthinking.

Mr Osborne spoke about the importance of sharing information, or ‘content sharing’ to gain more clients and he gave valuable tips on how to do so. He said business owners need to be able to get the information “out of their head and onto paper” but warned against sharing too much information or creating an overt sales pitch.

“You don’t have to be a brilliant writer, you just need to get (information) out of your head and onto paper. Information shared freely has its own rewards,” he said. “Don’t talk about about what you do – but what they can get.

Sharing things gives you a dress of credibility. Information shared freely has its own rewards – it is not instant – but eventually people will come to you as a professional in your field.”

Mr Osborne suggested writing a report between eight and twelve pages in length, which could include four articles and about eight blogs. Mr Osborne said the Holy Grail was the exchanging of names and email addresses, so newsletters and information can continue to be sent to the prospective client about ways they can benefit from your area of expertise.

President Ross Nielson thanked Mr Osborne for speaking at the meeting and said the event, which included networking, was beneficial to the members. “We are an intimate group of about 50 members, and networking is a key function for our group,” he said.
